Secular Liberty Homeschoolers is a group for anyone who homeschools or is interested in homeschooling. We created Attack of the Cuboids as a robotics team in the FIRST® LEGO® League — an organization dedicated to guiding youth through STEM learning and exploration at an early age.

Thank you for visiting, and have a great day.
Our Cuboids presented their models & notebooks ... and demonstrated their programming expertise, showing all that their awesome robot can do.
We watched some serious competition and mingled with the older kids before taking on an escape room exercise and accepting our medals.
Thank you to our Cuboids & their families for a great year! And many thanks to everyone who supported us along the way.
Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU!!!
In the last five weeks of the season, the Cuboids learned about different kinds of ocean-related jobs and used that information to build an exploration station with a lab and a fish-washing/studying station. The exploration station will be featured on our finished mat.
We also worked on reviewing requirements for the festival presentations, finalized our models, made detailed drawings in our engineering notebooks, determined the placement of our builds on our mat and brainstormed ideas for our poster presentation.
With some final modifications to our builds and coding — and a little practice for our presentation to the festival reviewers — we’re ready for the 2024 Explore Festival in Lee County! Wooo!
Watch our video to see the Cuboids modify their submarine with a new sensor and motor — complete with a freshly coded program that made the fan purr like a catfish. They also constructed a snowmobile that they quickly retooled into a deep-water submarine set to explore the abyssal zone (and all areas of the work table!).
Finally, imagination took to the seas as the kids built their very own new animal species — the Cleeshale — and its cave habitat. What is a Cleeshale? It can vary in size from about the diameter of a basketball to the gargantuan length of a whale; and it lives in both the sunlight and twilight zones, feasting on its favorite prey: the tarpon.
Keep up the great work, Cuboids!
These have been a big few weeks! The Cuboids just wrapped up our small builds for the three ocean zones on our mat.
We also experimented with modifying the structure and speed of our super amazing boat launcher and learned more about functional parts of our build like sensors and light displays. We tied those parts back to a lesson on how submersibles use visual alarms to avoid waking deep-sea squids and avoid hurting them…
…and hopefully keep them from turning us into another 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea cautionary tale. Yikes!
This was the Cuboids' FIRST-EVER venture into the robotics space! So we spent our first week taking our time, making sure we were on the right track.
It didn't take long before our builds started taking shape. Of course, we couldn't have done it without such great help from our younger, under-the-table-dwelling friends.
Thank you all!
